Dr. Reed A. Graves is the Scientific Review Officer for the Integrative Physiology of Obesity and Diabetes Scientific Review Group. His academic background includes a Ph.D. in chemistry from the Florida State University in Tallahassee, where he studied the regulation of histone gene expression. His postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute with Dr. Bruce Spiegelman led to the identification of an adipocyte-specific promoter and the identification of PPARgamma as a key regulator of adipogenesis. In 1993, Dr. Graves established his own research laboratory at the University of Chicago, where he studied the control of brown adipocyte gene expression. He was promoted to associate professor in 1996 and served as acting chair of the Committee on Human Nutrition and Nutritional Biology from 1999 to 2003.
