Dr. Cheryl Kitt is the Deputy Director of the Center for Scientific Review. She came to CSR from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, where she served as the Director of Extramural Program, providing scientific and management oversight for the program, grants management, contracts management, and review branches. Dr. Kitt received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland at College Park in Biopsychology where she was trained in comparative neuroanatomy. She obtained her post-doctoral training in neuroscience at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where her research focused on the neurobiology of neurodegenerative disorders. She later became a faculty member in Hopkins' Division of Neuropathology, Department of Pathology, studying neural systems affected in Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and a number of pediatric neurological disorders. Dr. Kitt came to NIH in 1995, to be the program director for research in pain, neuroendocrinology, neurotoxicology, sleep and circadian rhythms, and women's health research at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, where she also served as scientific and administrative team leader for the Systems and Cognitive Neuroscience Cluster. In her scientific career, Dr. Kitt has authored more than 150 research articles and book chapters for publications such as Science, Nature, Brain Research, and Neuroscience. She has delivered numerous lectures and presentations on neurodegenerative disorders, exploring the brain and NIH peer review for the public at regional and national universities, at the NIH and on National Public Radio. |
