Dr. Yvonne Szymko Bennett is the Scientific Review Officer for CSR’s Brain Disorders and Related Neurosciences (F01) Fellowship Study Section. She was previously a research fellow in the intramural program of the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, where she worked in several laboratories on brain imaging, hereditary hearing loss and electrophysiological studies in animal and human subjects. Dr. Bennett received a Ph.D. in bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania, where her dissertation focused on hair cell micromechanics and transduction. She also holds a certificate of clinical competence in audiology and served as a research audiologist in the NIH Clinical Center.
Before coming to NIH, Dr. Bennett conducted postdoctoral studies at the Institute for Sensory Research at Syracuse University on the tuning properties of cochlear hair cells after sound exposure in vivo. She also worked in science policy at the National Academy of Sciences, in patent examination at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and in technology transfer at the NIH.
