Dr. Tera Bounds is the Scientific Review Officer for PTHE (Pathogenic Eukaryotes study section). She received a D.V.M. from the Federal Rural University of Rio and a Ph.D. in comparative pathology at the University of California, Davis. She practiced food animal medicine for 4 years before concentrating on researching integrated strategies to control food animal gastrointestinal parasites as an independent investigator for almost twenty years. Four of those years were spent at the Agricultural Research Services (USDA-ARS), where she conducted studies on the role of host genetics on resistance/susceptibility to diseases. In addition, she led the food safety and animal health component of the technical cooperation program involving the USDA-ARS and the Brazilian Agricultural Research Organization (EMBRAPA). She coordinated a Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) international research project and was active in designing food safety standards and guidelines as a participant of the FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarius Committees on Food Hygiene and Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Foods. She joined CSR in July 2003.
