Dr. Syed Amir currently serves as the Scientific Review Officer (SRO) of the Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology (MCE) Study Section. Before taking this position, he served as the SRO of the Endocrinology Study Section, the predecessor of the MCE Study Section. He received his Ph.D. degree at the University of Birmingham, England, and stayed on as a research associate working on the purification and characterization of human follicle-stimulating and luteinizing hormones. He served as a visiting intramural scientist at the laboratory of Biochemical Pharmacology for two years. His earlier studies focused on the characterization of pituitary glycoprotein hormones and their actions at the receptor level. Prior to coming to the NIH in 1987, he was an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Hospital, Boston, where he pursued research on the physiology and pathophysiology of the thyroid gland.
