Dr. Tom Peterson serves as the Scientific Review Officer for the study section that reviews basic science proposals on the biology and treatment of ischemic heart disease within CSR’s Cardiovascular and Respiratory Sciences Integrated Review Group. After receiving his Ph.D. in psychology from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, Dr. Peterson served as a post-doctoral fellow in cardiology at Bowman-Grey Medical School in Winston-Salem. He then joined Warner-Lambert/Parke-Davis to work in cardiovascular drug discovery and development in the areas of hypertension, myocardial ischemia, heart failure, and thrombosis. Before coming to NIH in 2009, he was a senior associate director in cardiovascular therapeutics at Boehringer-Ingelheim, where he managed heart failure drug discovery. During his tenure in the pharmaceutical industry he lead project teams that identified five clinical candidates, and helped prepare two INDs and one eIND.
