Dr. Fungai Chanetsa is the Scientific Review Officer for CSR’s Kidney, Nutrition, Obesity and Diabetes [KNOD] Study Section. She holds an M.P.H. from the Graduate School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. in human nutrition from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She later became a research associate professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she was also director of the Behavioral Risk Research Unit and project director of the Missouri Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. As an associate professor at Northwest Missouri State University, she researched diabetes management (focusing on physical activity and diet) in African American women and used GIS to study the relationships between the physical environment and health outcomes in under-served populations. Dr. Chanetsa previously was the senior lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe and conducted research on cardiovascular risk factors in a population in health transition.
